Dr Ruppert receives HDR Excellence Award

Dr Michael Ruppert has been selected as the recipient of the Higher Degree by Research Excellence Award for the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment in 2017. The award recognises excellence in research and aims to encourage, reward and celebrate outstanding achievement in research by candidates in any area of the University. Congratulations Michael!

IEEE Seminar by Dr Ruppert at Univ. of Western Australia

Dr. Michael Ruppert from the Precision Mechatronics Lab is giving a 1 hour seminar on 'Self-Sensing, Estimation and Control in Multifrequency Atomic Force Microscopy' at the University of Western Australia. The talk is hosted by the IEEE WA joint EDS/SSC/IPS Chapter. Event information Date: Friday, 19 May 2017 Time: 2.00 PM Venue: Billings Room 3.04, [...]

Horiba-AIST Xplora Plus Confocal Raman Microscope for TERS

The Precision Mechatronics Lab has installed a Horiba Xplora Plus Confocal Raman microscope and AIST AFM. This combination provides confocal and Tip Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (TERS). These capabilities allow the 3D mapping of optical properties, topography, and chemical composition, with 400nm resolution in transparent volumes, and 10nm resolution on surfaces. This instrument supports a broad spectrum [...]

Polytec 3D MEMS Analyzer

The Precision Mechatronics Lab has installed a Polytec MSA-100-3DSV-V analyzer for characterizing micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) in three dimensions. This instrument will allow new micro-sensors under development to be characterized up to frequencies of 24-MHz.

Fleming receives Batterham Medal

Dr. Fleming has received the 2016 Batterham Medal, an award from the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, that recognises an early career engineer who has achieved substantial peer and industry recognition in the past five years. The medal was presented to Associate Professor Fleming by Professor Robin Batterham AO FREng FAA FTSE at the [...]

Novel Microcantilevers for Multifrequency Atomic Force Microscopy

Dr. Yuen Yong has received an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant ($296,000) to develop Novel Microcantilevers for Multifrequency Atomic Force Microscopy. This research will enable high-speed simultaneous imaging of multiple physical and chemical properties at the molecular and atomic scale. This project will begin in January 2017 and is funded for three years.

Optimal Periodic Trajectories for Band-Limited Systems

These Matlab files are an implementatation of the band-limited periodic reference generator described in "Optimal periodic trajectories for band-limited systems", A. J. Fleming and A. G. Wills, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 13 (3), pp. 552-562, 2009. The functions include: a band-limited periodic signal generator; optimal inverse filtering; and examples for visualization in simulink. [...]

Best Paper Finalist at IEEE AIM 2016

This article presents a new method for fabricating nanopositioning systems from a single layer of piezoelectric material by ultrasonic machining. The article is among 5 finalists for the best paper award at the IEEE Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics which will be held in Banff, Canada on the 12th to 15th of July. [...]
